"Maeve is one of the kindest people I've ever had the pleasure to know. She provides the care you will never receive in our modern healthcare system and for that I am truly grateful I found her. She has the amazing gift of listening and finding out what truly matters to you and honoring that without letting any of her opinions get in the way. She keeps the focus on you and your baby. I always looked forward to our visits, which felt like more of just a time to chat with my friend and have any of my worries alleviated by her presence and wealth of knowledge. My favorite things about the care I received from her was her calming presence and validation of my choices around how I wanted to move forward in this sacred time. I am so thankful to have two beautiful, healthy babies born into the atmosphere of her calming presence."

“Maeve was my midwife for my second child. I have such deep gratitude that I got to work with her and I would wholeheartedly work with her again. There isn't anyone quite like her. Maeve is empathetic, sharply intelligent, funny, and so deeply warm. I consider Maeve a dear friend and one of the best care providers I've ever had.

I found out I was pregnant in February 2020. Just a few weeks later, our worlds were transformed by the Covid shelter in place. Maeve was absolutely brilliant, warm, and grounding during a time when everyone's world was turned upside down (including her own!) She helped me creatively navigate a bumpy first trimester that had some unexpected challenges I had to deal with in isolation. She held supportive and open emotional space for me as I suddenly shifted to having my two year old at home with me all the time and working remotely. I felt seen and held in her care, and I knew I could come to her about anything that I needed to talk about. She created an online space for those of us who were pregnant during this time - and this became a lifeline and an outlet during a most challenging year. When I went into pre-term labor at 36 weeks, Maeve was able to accompany me to the hospital for the birth of my baby. She was such a grounding presence through this surprise early labor, helping me navigate my first hospital birth with care.

Maeve's approach to midwifery care is empowering. She is clear in her communication, open to questions and explaining what's happening. She walks you through tests so you understand how they work. She offers options and honors informed consent. Her approach centers the experience of the birthing parent and is feminist and anti-oppressive. To work with Maeve is to be in relationship with her; and she is simply one of the best health care providers I know.” - Jenny M.

“We cannot recommend Maeve and Redwood Midwifery enough! From the first appointment to the last and every adventure in between, including labor and delivery, Maeve was kind, patient, professional, and knowledgeable. We had a planned home birth that resulted in an emergency hospital transfer. Maeve clearly articulated her transfer process with me in early appointments and executed it perfectly. This included making a quick decision to transfer, a move that allowed us to bring a healthy and happy baby boy into the world. She and her team worked well with the EMT and Hospital Team at Lucile Packard, allowing me to have the natural birth we wanted. Here are several other reasons we loved working with Maeve:

  • Responsive to calls, etc.

  • Appointments never felt rushed, she listened to and asked questions spanning my emotional and physical wellbeing

  • Postpartum visits focused on mother, baby, and our family (incl. 2-year old son) - a very holistic approach - and were so convenient because they take place in-home

  • Helped me navigate the equipment and logistics needed for a successful and comfortable home birth

  • Gave excellent referrals for postpartum specialists

  • Convenient online portal for viewing my medical records, notes from visits, etc.

  • Transparent with cost and coverage of care

The birth of our son was one of the most special events, if not the most special event, to take place in our lives. We are so appreciative of every piece of advice, the ongoing support, and the excellent knowledge Maeve passed our way through the journey. -Lindsay Fay Pruden

“I invited Maeve to join my birth team as a postpartum provider. I planned a hospital birth but wanted to be back home in my own bed as soon as possible (assuming an uncomplicated delivery). This was easily my favorite part of the birth plan! It was so lovely bringing our newborn home and getting to know each other in our native environment. I loved that we were home with our 2-year-old quickly so he could feel more included in our growing family.

Getting discharged early from the hospital was surprisingly difficult but Maeve did an awesome job communicating with the hospital team. She wrote us a letter and spoke on the phone with the pediatric hospitalist. We knew how awesome Maeve was when the hospitalist, who had in decades of practice never released an infant prior to 24 hours, made a 180° change after a phone conversation with Maeve and signed our discharge papers almost immediately afterward.

Maeve came to our home and cared for me and my newborn. Her care was both professional and tender. She offered excellent advice about postpartum recovery that I hadn’t heard elsewhere. She performed the newborn screening for us so we didn’t have to have it done at the pediatrician’s.

The thing I loved most about Maeve is that she treated me like an intelligent human being and empowered me to make my own medical decisions. With other midwives and doulas, I felt like I would be judged for opting into an induction, an epidural, or HepB vaccination, but with Maeve I felt confident that any medical decision I made would be fully supported. And when I asked questions, Maeve was happy to provide a complete answer, once including a 16-page handout (with citations!) explaining the diagnosis, risks, and treatment of newborn jaundice. After my 5-star experience, I’ve recommended Maeve to my friends planning a homebirth or hospital birth alike.”

“I'm so grateful that we got to work with Maeve right after the birth of our first son. At 5 weeks old, our son was having difficulty feeding and pain after a tongue-tie procedure. Over the next month and a half, Maeve came over for regular sessions to provide lactation support and craniosacral therapy. Maeve was extremely gentle and caring with our newborn. Although he hadn't met many people yet, he seemed super comfortable with Maeve, and his feeding improved significantly after each session. Maeve was always open to answering any and all of our questions, and extremely thorough in her explanations. I also had a craniosacral therapy session myself, which was both a beautiful experience and crucial for my physical and emotional recovery process. Getting to know Maeve was a true highlight of my postpartum period, and I highly recommend working with her!”

“Maeve has such a knowledgeable, compassionate, and personable presentation style. I’m an experienced mentor. This [Taming Fear] course was full of needed reminders and so many new take-aways that will surely improve the work I share with parents. This course with Maeve as instructor is the perfect combination!”

“The [Birth Art] course went beyond my expectations in that I thought I would learn some prompts or exercises to share with clients, what I actually came away with was a deep insight in how to hold space for creative enquiry, how to mentor someone as they move through an inner reflective process, how to drop my ego in my birthwork and how to find the joy in my practice. I'm really grateful for this course & the depth of the teaching provided.  I really enjoyed this course & I want to shout out Maeve who just gave so much really valuable insight each session & so much time to individuals whilst maintaining the group, this was so inspiring & how she phrased things each time was just perfect - great learning for me!”
